Synthetic Equity Strategies (SES) is a Tulsa-based strategy consulting company. We focus on partnering with private businesses in the lower-to-middle market to develop a strategy for growth that maximizes enterprise value. We use business intelligence and data analytics to provide the owner/operator a decision support system, not typically found in small companies. Our most successful clients are either looking for an investment of capital or have identified a sale of the business as a medium to long-term goal. They realize their target valuation will require a reassessment of the business’s management, processes, and products.

SES differentiates itself by playing an active, “hands on” role for every company we invest in or partner with. Whether as a representative on the board, a member of the executive team, or as a part of the day-to-day management, SES is adept at bringing a value-added, externally informed perspective to help connect and align all components of the business to improve performance, create sustainability, and build wealth.

Jeff Ray
Principal

Jeff Ray is a highly relational and respected leader who has founded, advised, and led multiple companies. Most recently, he and his business partners sold one of their companies to Sims Metal Management, Ltd., which at the time was the largest publicly-listed metal recycler in the world.
 
Mr. Ray is a thought leader and versatile facilitator who specializes in moving business owners and organizations to action. An expert in performance management, business development, and organizational development, Mr. Ray has been instrumental in quantifying and managing successful organizational change initiatives. Mr. Ray is also adept at identifying, recruiting, and developing key personnel to promote effective transitions of executive leadership and management.
 
Mr. Ray has a BA in Organizational Interpersonal Communications from Oral Roberts University. He is a Certified Facilitator for Human Synergistics Organizational Effectiveness Inventory (OEI®), Organizational Cultural Inventory (OCI®), and Leadership Impact (LI®). Mr. Ray is also a Consulting Council Member for the Gerson Lehrman Group and Third Bridge Consulting

David Reynolds, CFA
Principal

David Reynolds is a proven leader with experience in finance, strategy, and corporate development functions. He has expertise in simplifying problem statements, making analytical assessments, and then aligning strategy with opportunity to address market needs.

Mr. Reynolds most recently co-founded and sold InVia Pavement Technologies, a specialty asphalt materials business, to Ingevity Specialty Chemicals, where he led product and strategy development. David was also Principal and Founder at Gear Up Finance, where he provided financial and strategic advisory services to middle market companies.

Prior to Gear Up Finance, Mr. Reynolds served in executive and management roles leading corporate and business development activities within the telecommunication industry. Mr. Reynolds began his career as an engineer in the oil and automotive industries working for Schlumberger and Ford. He received his master’s degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University.
